Simple whole-food, plant-based basic teriyaki sauce that is refined sugar free and has a fantastic traditional flavor. Use it on all of your stir fry dishes, vegetables, or salads.

Teriyaki Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup low sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 cup low sodium vegetable broth
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tsp fresh minced ginger
  • 1 tsp fresh minced garlic
  • 5 large medjood dates, chopped (pits removed)
  • 3 Tbs mirin or dry white wine
  • 2 Tbs cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Special Equipment:

Preparation Method:

Bring the first 7 ingredients (tamari through mirin) to a boil in a sauce pan. Reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool for 10 minutes. Pour the mixture into a blender and blend until dates are dissolved and the sauce is smooth.

In a small bowl, dissolve the corn starch in the cold water.

Return to blended sauce to the pot and pour in the cornstarch mixture while whisking. Heat the sauce over medium heat and bring to a simmer, allowing the cornstarch to thicken the sauce. Simmer for 2 minutes and remove from the heat. Stir in the sesame seeds.

Use the sauce immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
